Maurice Blackburn taps new employment and industrial law practice head for Queensland

Maurice Blackburn has tapped Patrick Turner as its new employment and industrial law practice head for Queensland.

New principal Turner takes over the role from Giri Sivaraman, who was named the next race discrimination commissioner early last month. In the role, Turner will continue to collaborate with unions to safeguard and enforce workers' rights.

He commenced with Maurice Blackburn in 2014. In his tenure with the firm, he helped to recover almost $6m for exploited and underpaid 7-Eleven workers.

“When people are dismissed, discriminated against, bullied or otherwise mistreated in the course of their employment, this can pose a serious threat to their financial state and mental health”, Turner said. “We have built a reputation for excellence representing unions and workers in Queensland, through hard work and tenacious advocacy. I am proud to lead a team with a strong legacy and a bright future. It is a privilege to work with the mighty union movement in Queensland”.
