Stuart Fuller trades KWM for KPMG Law

KPMG is dead serious about its legal industry ambitions

Stuart Fuller trades KWM for KPMG Law

Stuart Fuller, King & Wood Malleson’s (KWM) former global managing partner, is the new head of KPMG Law.

Fuller spent the last decade in various leadership positions at KWM, once also leading the firm in Australia and Hong Kong. His practice encompasses the financial industry, markets and regulations, cross border investment, trade and capital markets, and securitisation.

Sue Kench, KWM’s former Australian chief, succeeded Fuller earlier this year. Fuller then returned to his banking and finance practice in Australia.

The appointment confirms KPMG’s commitment to expanding its legal services.

“As a fast growing, multi-disciplinary professional services firm, there is tremendous opportunity to support existing client work with complementary legal services,” said Gary Wingrove, KPMG Australia CEO. “Stuart’s appointment reflects the ambition of our plans to expand our legal advisory business. He will also drive the delivery of new and innovative legal solutions through our increased investment in legal technology.”

The firm also expects the benefits of Fuller’s arrival to go beyond KPMG Law.

“Stuart is an exceptional executive with vision, capability and a depth of connectedness in Australia and Asia that is unparalleled. We believe that his energy will not only ensure an acceleration of our success in legal advisory, but add depth and capability across a broader range of our practice areas,” Wingrove said.

Fuller will work closely with David Morris, who helped the professional services giant establish and build its legal services arm.

“David has been critical to the establishment of KPMG Law. He has grown the practice and recruited leading partners and teams across the areas of corporate, M&A, employment, financial services, technology and real estate. Stuart will work closely with David to build our legal capabilities,” Wingrove said.

Morris will lead KPMG Law’s M&A legal group. He will also continue to be on KPMG’s global legal services steering group.
