Slater and Gordon adds medical law heavyweight in Qld

Slater and Gordon has grown its medical law team in Queensland, bringing one of the top medical negligence lawyers in the state to the fold.

Bill King has moved to the firm as principal lawyer, joining from Shine Lawyers where he also headed the medical law team. King has been tasked to lead Slater and Gordon’s medical law team in Queensland.

King, who is recognised as a leading lawyer by Doyle’s Guide, has extensive experience acting in complex medical law cases. He holds the current record for the largest compensation judgment in Queensland, securing $6.7m in Mules v Ferguson [2015] QCA 5.

“I look forward to leading the medical law team in Queensland for Slaters. The amount of cases the team is conducting is the largest portfolio I have seen in my 25 years in the law,” King said. “This is an indication that clients respect the performance of the team and are attracted to the size and strength of the Slaters brand in Queensland.”

With the largest plaintiff medical law practice in Australia, Slater and Gordon often acts for injured clients in medical negligence claims.

Karen Murphy, Queensland general manager at Slater and Gordon, said that the firm has been reviewing its business in the state.

“We are now growing our practice in specialist areas such as medical law as more people contact us for advice. We are aligning our growth mission with leading lawyers such as Bill to deliver on our client service proposition. We welcome Bill into our firm,” she said.
