Piper Alderman appoints Lantegy Legal founder as partner

Piper Alderman has appointed Katie Winterbourne, founding principal at WA strategic land and environmental law specialist firm Lantegy Legal, as a new partner in its national projects, infrastructure, and construction practice.

Winterbourne, who operates from Perth, commenced the role on 20 November.

She brings 25 years of experience working on matters in the resources, energy, and infrastructure sectors. She has guided clients on issues involving project planning, development, operations, and closure; in addition, she has negotiated the associated commercial and stakeholder documents.

Winterbourne has also aided clients in securing and maintaining project tenure and regulatory approvals, which includes working with state agreements. Moreover, she has handled complex transactions pertaining to the buying and selling of resources as well as energy and infrastructure assets by drafting transaction documents and conducting target due diligence.

Earlier in her career, she helped the WA government with a review into state water legislation. She also logged a stint as a partner in Ashurst's resources and energy practice in Perth and has over four years of experience as an in-house lawyer gained at BHP Billiton, where she supported nickel mining operations and business development.

In addition, Winterbourne has worked in Canada, where she advised the chair of the Alberta Environmental Appeals Board on hearings related to contaminated land and water resource allocation in the City of Calgary. She also worked with the City of Calgary on water trading within the Bow and Elbow catchments.
