MinterEllison has attracted a senior lawyer who has been a long-standing partner at a global firm.

Shaun Clyne, a leading M&A lawyer, has been appointed as a partner in the MinterEllison transactions team. The Sydney-based partner moved from Norton Rose Fulbright.

Clyne has more than 25 years’ experience advising Australian and international companies, private equity, and financial institutions, MinterEllison said. He is consistently ranked in international and national surveys as a leading M&A and capital markets lawyer.

Stuart Johnson, MinterEllison managing partner for capital markets, said that Clyne’s expertise will be a boost to several areas of the firm.

"Shaun’s impressive experience working on signature deals across the ASX200 will enhance the capabilities of our Transaction Solutions team and provide focus in key areas of growth and opportunity in the current environment,” he said. "In particular, Shaun's experience in technology, telecommunication and health will prove vital as the economy starts to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Clyne noted that the company recently topped Mergermarket’s M&A league tables for Australasia in terms of deal count and was named a top 10 firm in the Asia-Pacific region lists.

“The firm's strong engagement with the APAC region demonstrates that offshore clients trust MinterEllison to help them navigate their investment into Australia, which has become more complex with the recent tightening of foreign investment approvals,” he said.

Clyne also said that the investment landscape in Australia and around the world is rapidly changing because of the “unique and challenging period of time.” He said he looks forward to helping clients “navigate the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities that will start to emerge as economies and businesses start to recover.”

In addition to advising on public and private M&A, IPOs, and secondary capital raisings, Clyne has also acted on several hostile and friendly takeovers, as well as represented clients in Takeovers Panel proceedings.

“Shaun is a top legal practitioner and has overseen major public and private M&A transactions in the technology, media, telecommunication and health sectors. This kind of expertise is vital in supporting our clients, particularly as we look forward to the economy recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic and predict sector growth in these areas," said partner Con Boulougouris, Sydney M&A head.
