Hogan Lovells boosts construction and engineering practice with London hire

Hogan Lovells is strengthening its construction and engineering practice with the hire of Emerson Holmes as a partner in the global international arbitration practice. He joins from King & Spalding where he was deputy head of construction.

Joining the firm’s London office, Holmes has been involved in some of the largest infrastructure projects in Asia, Australia and the Middle East. His practice focuses on representing owners, contractors and consultants in disputes arising out of the design and construction of LNG facilities, petrochemical plants, mine, off-shore platforms and other types of infrastructure projects.

Although primarily focused on international arbitration, Emerson has also significant experience advising clients in adjudications and in proceedings in the English courts.

“We have an excellent team specializing in construction and engineering disputes, including in our London office with partners Rupert Sydenham and Tom Smith,” said Kieron O’Callaghan, deputy global head of international arbitration at Hogan Lovells. “Emerson’s deep expertise, coupled with his well-deserved reputation as a leading advocate, will further boost our market leading disputes practice, which comprises 700 lawyers globally.”

Holmes added: “I have fond memories of my time with Lovells as an associate in Hong Kong earlier in my career, and I am excited to be re-joining the firm. Hogan Lovells has an unparalleled global construction brand and there is a unique and intriguing opportunity to collaborate even more across the globe to better serve the firm’s impressive client base. I am also excited to join a team that I know has a strong culture of working together in order to service the best interests of clients.”
