Global firm welcomes partner back to the fold

The Melbourne office of a global law firm has welcomed the return of a boomerang corporate and transactional partner after a year at another firm.

Corporate and transactional lawyer John Mann has left his adopted firm Clarendon Lawyers to team up with his former team at global law firm K&L Gates.

A corporate and M&A veteran with 25 years experience, Mann began his career with Middletons in 1988 and became a partner with the firm in 1995.

During his time with Middletons - which combined with K&L Gates in January 2013 - he was a board member for over eight years and had wide influence within the firm.

Mann’s advises on M&A, private equity, joint ventures, corporate structures, restructures, regulatory issues, contracts, and business law advice.

Mann said that he was “excited” to be back with his old team at K&L Gates, after he left the firm to join Clarendon Lawyers in mid-2015.

““Having started with the firm in 1988, there is a great sense of returning home,” he says.

“I look forward to delivering to my clients the full resources of a globally integrated platform, particularly as we continue to service an increasing volume of cross border transactions.”

K&L Gates Australia managing partner Nick Nichola said Mann had made a substantial contribution to the firm over the last 25 years.

“His energy and his passion for his work, his clients, and his colleagues will be a great asset to the firm. John is highly regarded in both the marketplace and across our firm, and I have no doubt he will make a great impact from the day he returns,” he said.

K&L Gates has recently added corporate partners Nick Humphrey, Dan Atkin and Hal Lloyd in Sydney, and Phillip Vickerty and Jeremy Prentice in Brisbane.

During his previous stint on the board, Mann was involved in initiatives including knowledge management, pro bono, corporate social responsibility, and diversity.
