Donald Robertson was nominated for the role by the Australian government
Dentons partner Donald Robertson has been elected as the Australia correspondent of the Governing Council of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT).
Robertson’s term will run from June 2022 to May 2025. He was nominated for the role by the Australian government.
He was appointed in the commercial areas of International Commercial Contract Law and Transnational Civil Procedure. According to Dentons, the appointment is “a rare honour which recognises Donald for his expertise in both fields.”
Dentons Australia Chair and Australasia Region CEO Doug Stipanicev added that the role also “reflects Donald as a leader in his field.”
A legal veteran with nearly four decades under his belt, Robertson works with the firm’s IPT team as a competition and economic regulation partner. He focuses on regulatory law (including cross-border regulation under international treaties), competition law, contract law, and international contract and commercial law; moreover, he is an expert in blockchain and cryptocurrency law.
In addition to his practice, he is also Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Sydney Law School. He has taught at the University of Melbourne’s Melbourne Business School as well.
UNIDROIT oversees many global agreements and conventions in the area of commerce. It was initially established as a League of Nations organisation.
