Corrs calls on Magic Circle partner as Denton set to step down as CEO
Corrs Chambers Westgarth has named its incoming chief executive as its long-time leader, John W.H. Denton AO, is set to leave the firm.

Gavin MacLaren will succeed Denton when he steps down in July. Denton, who will have led the firm for 17 years when he departs, will pursue a new career, the firm has confirmed.

MacLaren is currently the managing partner of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in Singapore. He is a member of the Magic Circle firm’s global transaction group board and global markets board.

Before joining the top UK-headquartered firm, he spent 10 years as a partner at Allens, where he held various senior leadership roles. He is known as an international expert in major corporate transactions, dispute resolution, and public international law.

“Gavin is an outstanding candidate who will continue to build on the fantastic success the firm has enjoyed under John Denton’s leadership. He brings to the role a wealth of experience in Australia and Asia,” said Stephen Price, Corrs chairman.

Price also celebrated Denton’s leadership, saying: “Without doubt Corrs would not enjoy its current success without John’s enormous focus, drive and direction.”
